Ortile Living Bamboo House

Pavones, Puntarenas, Costa Rica 2015 – 2016

Located in the mountains of Piedades de Santa Ana, within the Protective Zone of the Escazú hills, this house was born as an immediate response to its surroundings and the impressive views it offers. Immersed in the mountains and protected by vegetation, the house is open to the visitor from the main entrance, its transparencies allow the exterior and interior to be experienced as a single unison space.

As natural water springs cross our path everywhere in this magical mountain, this element greets us upon entering and is always present inside, reflecting pools, water walls and roof scuppers remind us that this element is an integral part of its architecture. Wood, exposed concrete, marble, glass, stone, oxidized copper, and honest materials that reflect their nature come together to give life to a modern vernacular architecture that celebrates the place where it was born.
