Villavert House

Golfito, Puntarenas, Costa Rica 2015 – 2016

The project is a house for a retired couple who acquired a property in Golfito, with an impressive view of the gulf and the Pacific Ocean. The program was simple, however, the topography and the harsh climate of the area posed the most important challenge. With a 60% slope and structural problems on the ground, the solution was proposed in two main volumes in a steel structure and suspended above the ground to impact it as little as possible.

One of the client’s needs was the construction of a pool, but since it was an elderly couple who required easy access to it, it was not an option to build the pool on the ground about 6 meters below the main level, so they were proposed a pool that floated in the air built in metal supported by long columns.

The property is circumscribed in a dense wooded area. The proposal was made with two volumes with green roofs that were lost in the landscape and the skin of the buildings was reminiscent of the colorful tropical architecture of the buildings of the banana company that operated in the area for many years.
