Zi Plaza & Beach Hotel
Playas del Coco – Guanacaste, Costa Rica 2014 – 2015
Playas del Coco has become a multicultural city with rapid growth, which makes it difficult to carry out adequate urban planning that responds to this need. During the Pandemic, immigration has grown substantially and the city’s infrastructure is not keeping up with that growth. The world has changed and the world of work has been completely transformed, today thousands of people are finding on the coasts of Costa Rica an option to develop professionally by working remotely for thousands of companies around the world.
They have found in this country a perfect place to live, fully enjoy life and fulfill the dream of living on the most beautiful beaches. Parallel to this, this immigration continues to grow for retired people and Playas del Coco has been the ideal place given the number of services in the area, the unique proximity to the international airport and a circuit of majestic beaches less than 30 minutes away. . In response to this situation, Zi Plaza Coco was born as a multipurpose social center that provides more opportunities for recreation, work and fun for this large population.
Its concept is inspired by traditional beach ranches, with its bamboo or log columns joined by a large canvas or straw roof anchored to the sand and creating a large cool space protected from the sun. Allegorical also to a naval image where the use of wood, the color white and the scale of the great masts of the sailboats that draw the horizon stand out. The project is made up of a large gallery of commercial premises, cafes, restaurants, bars, offices, a large casino and a hotel.
